The Director General of Vocational Training, Eugenia Pérez, and the Director of Galicia Calidade, Ana Méndez, today attended the first edition of the Eneas Memorial Bakery and Pastry Competition, organised by the departments of Hospitality and Tourism and Food Industries of the IES Sanxillao Secondary School. The event brings together students from different schools that teach these studies to promote the exchange of knowledge and skills among future professionals in the sector.
In this first edition, the first prize was won by the CIFP Carlos Oroza Integrated Vocational Training Centre (Pontevedra), while the second prize went to the A Graña Naval Station Specialities School (Ferrol) and the third prize went to the CPR Belarmino Fernández Iglesias School (Sober).
At the championship, Eugenia Pérez highlighted the talent of the participants and underlined the importance of supporting and encouraging the development of these skills for the future of the food industry in Galicia.
The representative of the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training highlighted the commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to training in bakery and pastry making, seeking employment and meeting the demand for qualified professionals. In this sense, he pointed out that centres such as the Instituto IES Sanxillao reinforce their offer with training cycles that respond to the needs of the market. ‘Our aim is to consolidate quality training, aligned with the demands of the sector and with a clear vocation for the future,’ said the director general.
During her speech, Eugenia Pérez highlighted the high demand for vocational training, both from students and companies, who are looking for professionals prepared to join the labour market. In this context, she referred to the new Plan FPGal360, an initiative of the Xunta de Galicia that seeks to reduce school dropout rates and attract people with low qualifications to the education system.
For her part, the Managing Director of Galicia Calidade highlighted the importance of making the products certified by the seal known to future professionals, a task that we have been carrying out in recent years. In this case, we are focusing on bakery and pastry products such as cream, eggs, cheese and milk from recognised Galician quality brands.
