Geographic designation Orujo from Galicia covers the pomace brandy made from marc taken from
wine vineyards within the geographical area of the Autonomous Community of
The products covered by this label are the pomace
spirits sold either in the same year of being obtained or after a period of
rest; and aged pomace spirits, which will remain in wooden containers
for at least one year.
Production, bagasse distillation and aging of the
resulting spirits, must take place within the territory of Galicia. There being nine production sub-areas, with their own
peculiarities: Ribeiro, Valdeorras, Rias Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Monterrei, Val
do Miño-Ourense, Betanzos, Ribeira do Ulla and Portomarín.
The spirits of the
designation Orujo from Galicia must
have intense fine and delicate aroma and flavor, free from foreign matter. Those
coming from marc are colourless, transparent and clean. The aged orujo is amber
The alcohol content is between 37.5 and 50% vol.
