The PDO Mexillón de Galicia (Galician Mussel) covers the mussels that really come from the Galician Ria Valleys and certify that they are grown according to the traditional and natural way of the Galician Rias, based on a respectful relationship with the environment.
Galician mussels have organoleptic characteristics directly related to the area in which they grow, as the Galician Rias are one of the most important phytoplankton deposits on the planet, and that abundance gives the product a palatability, texture, flavour and colour, that differentiate these mussels from those of a different origin.
The DOP seal indicates that the products are from Galicia and its production, processing and preparation takes place in the territory of the autonomous region.
The brand pesca de Rias, ¿de onde se non? is a hallmark for the promotion of fish and shellfish from the Galician artisanal fleet. All products identified with this label, come from shellfish gathering or inshore fishing which are unloaded daily in the ports of Galicia.
When they are first sold, they have all been out of the sea for less than 24 hours. The extraction methods are also environmentally friendly, and aim at sustainable fishing.
This label allows consumers to easily distinguish products and is a guarantee of freshness and quality, respect for the environment and application of hygienic practices and proper handling by companies that commercialise them.
