Galicia Quality will strengthen the competitiveness of the galician tourism sector guarantying its excellence and certifying the best establishments

The award of the seal Galicia Calidade will take into account architectural, environmental, scenic, cultural and gastronomic values, demanding the presence of Galician products in certified establishments

Today the Autonomous Minister of Economy and Industry, Francisco Conde, director of Tourism from Galicia, Nava Castro, and the President of the Tourism Cluster of Galicia, Francisco González, have signed an agreement to incorporate the seal Galicia Quality to the Galician tourism sector, working as a guarantee of the excellence of its companies. A pioneering initiative in Spain, Mr. Conde said, which will seek to "differentiate the Galician tourism from its competitors, enhancing our tourist attractions, which makes us unique."

In this regard, he stressed that the agreement will enable the quality seal, which is now born by more than 50 companies and 250 products after growing 10% in both areas in 2014, to ensure the uniqueness of certain Galician tourist establishments, thus reinforcing the work of the Q or the ISO certified quality. Specifically, the Autonomous Minister stressed that the granting of Galicia Quality seal in the tourism field will imply complementary specific values of the Galician tourism: architectural, environmental, scenic, cultural or gastronomic.

Mr. Conde underlined that in this way the best Galician tourism businesses will be able to take advantage of a brand, that of Galicia Quality " which is well known not only in Spain but also internationally", thanks to the global presence of the best Galician products. Thus, he argued, Galicia will use the association between Galician products and quality made by consumers today in order to transfer that same perception to the tourism sector and enhance the ability to attract visitors. 

The agreement also aims at enhancing the Galician products. One of the requirements for the qualification of Galicia Quality will be the manifest presence of local products and food products protected by Galician Geographical Indications, an initiative based on the conviction that the tourism sector from houses of rural tourism to restaurants, are the best showcase for the promotion of local products.

"We seek a joint action between Government and Industry, working with the Tourism Cluster of Galicia, so that, together, we can gain prestige and ability to access new markets," Mr. Conde said and he advanced as first goal that this year 10 companies of the tourism sector will have the quality seal.

An initiative, he said, symbolizing various aspirations of Galicia Quality Strategy 2014-2016, focused on enhancing competitiveness of Galician companies, which seeks the consolidation of the Galician tourism one step ahead of its competitors, under the Integral Plan of Tourism Agency of Galicia.

Galicia, leader in quality

Meanwhile, the Director of Tourism of Galicia said that Galicia is a leader in number of awards to companies and services as strategic for Galicia as rural establishments, hotels and tourist apartments, spas, nautical sports facilities, golf courses, companies of active tourism, industrial tourism and nightlife. "Thus, Galicia is the Autonomous Region with most distinctive quality Q in Spain after Andalusia" she emphasized.

Nava Castro also insisted that quality involves commitment to differentiation and added value, and she places the destination in a position of greater privilege. In this regard, she said that the effort from Tourism of Galicia for quality is daily and insistent with the aim of providing the destination of the excellence it deserves.

The Head of Tourism finally said, "we will continue working with the private sector so that quality becomes a work methodology, ensuring the constant self-demand, continuous improvement and innovation as an essential element to be competitive."
