The J80 World Championship Baiona 2023 is the most awaited event of the season. And also the most international. With almost 80 teams registered and sailors coming from more than 40 nationalities.

As scheduled in the programme, on Monday 18th the fleet made its debut in the Rías Baixas with the practice race. The wind, which was in very good conditions after Sunday's squall, allowed the fleet to complete a race in which the teams were able to measure themselves for the first time.

Once ashore, at eight o'clock in the evening, the opening ceremony took place in the village of the Baiona club in front of hundreds of people including sailors, companions, members of the organisation and authorities. The event was presided over by José Luis Álvarez, President of the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona, and was also attended by Armando Gutiérrez, President of the J80 España, and Jesús Vázquez Almuiña, Mayor of Baiona. Monday also saw the start of another of the great attractions of the World Championship.

In collaboration with Galicia Calidade, those attending the inauguration were able to enjoy tastings of some of the best local products certified by the seal of guarantee: San Simón cheese from Quesería Daniberto and Casleiras, Arzúa Ulloa cheese from Pazo de Anzuxao and Barral, tetilla cheese from Pazo do Queixo and Quesos Feijoo, do cebreiro cheese from Santo André, ham from Coren, Cortizo canned tuna pie, omelette made with Patacas Gándara, onion from Legufrut and eggs from Ecocentro, Campomayor, Pazo de Vilane, Avícola Rías Baixas and Avícola Tratante, all accompanied by Estrella Galicia beer and Cabreiroá water.

So, with everything ready to start, the competition got underway on Tuesday with the first round on the race course and three of the fifteen races scheduled until next Saturday. Once the day was over, the participants gathered again in the Monte Real village, where on Tuesday they could enjoy a tasting of octopus from Rosa de Los Vientos and canned seafood (mussels, sardines, needle and scallops) from Escurís, Rianxeira and Conservas Cortizo.

The J80 World Championship Baiona 2023 is organised by the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona with the sponsorship of Turismo de Galicia and Galicia Calidade.
